These vegan energy balls satisfy all the chocolate craving but without any of the sugar highs, and inevitable sugar lows. They take about ten mins to make and are the perfect, easily grabbed, afternoon snack.

I hate recipes where all the ingredients are random things you never have.

The almond butter can be swapped for peanut butter, cacao powder for cocoa powder (although it will be a more sugary treat) and the cherries can be swapped for one ripe mashed banana - but you will maybe need to add more ground almonds to gain the right consistency depending on the banana 

Cherry and chocolate does feel like a proper treat though, think retro Black Forest gateau vibes!

Ingredients:
2 tbsp. almond butter (or peanut butter)
2 tbsp. oats 
2 tbsp. ground almonds
2 tbsp. honey
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
2 tbsp. Cacao powder
2 tbsp. Cherries (frozen) - defrosted and chopped into small pieces - depending on how you would like the texture 

 

Method:
1. Place the oats into a bender and blend until they become a crumb/flour
2. Add all the ingredients, including the oats into a bowl and mix, the mixture should be dry enough to roll but wet enough to stick together. It it is too sticky add more almonds.
3. Roll the mixture into balls and pop into the fridge for an hour
4. Enjoy!
 
For an added truffle-y touch - put 1tbsp cacao powder into a mug and drop each bowl in rolling the mug until the ball is coated.
